San Diego Padres one of the five teams in National League West Divisions. Padres joined National League in 1969. They play in Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego California. There jerseys consist of white, blue and orange colors.
San Diego Padres joined National League West Division in 1969. They were struggling for the first 15 years. First 6 years they finished last in their division, after that they were getting better but it wasent even good enough to make it to World Series.
Padres had a first winning season in 1978 where they won 84 games and lost 78 games. In 1984 Tony Gwynn won his first batting title and he helped San Diego Padres to win their first West Division Title. San Diego Padres made it all the way to World Series and they won National League Pennant. It was sad but they were defeated in the World Series.
Tony Gwynn is a sensational hitter but he wasn’t good enough to carry San Diego
Padres to World Series or even World Series. He did win 8 batting titles from 1984 to 1997. In 1996 San Diego Padres lost to St. Louis Cardinals in the first round of World Series and lost the National League Pennant.
In 1998 Padres made it all the way to World Series again but they just couldn’t beat the Yankees, and they swept them 4 games to none. After that Padres traded Vaughn and Kevin Brown signed with Los Angeles Dodgers because he was a free agent. Since that time Padres weren’t able to do anything and they been at the bottom of National League West Division again. Here comes new season 2005 San Diego Padres are trying to acquire new players to become better. Now we just have to wait and see if they can do something about it.
