New York Mets are a professional Baseball team located in New York City. Their most popular nickname is "Amazin's." When the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers left for California, a new team was anticipated for New York. The name Metropolitans was proposed because it was the name of an earlier baseball team in New York in the 1883 to 1887.
Although their losing ways, the New York Metropolitan Baseball Club, Inc (nicknamed "Mets") has been loved by their fans and that probably made them famous in the 1960s. Although N.Y Mets won an extremely weak NL East finishing only three games above .500 (In 1973), they beat the Cincinnati Reds in the NLCS to become the worst regular-season team to ever play in the World Series. Mets would lose that Series to the Oakland A's. During the 1980s, the Mets had one of the strongest players in baseball such as Dwight Gooden (pitcher), Darryl Strawberry (rightfielder), Gary Carter (catcher), and Keith Hernandez (baseman).
Although they had such players, that Mets team were able to capture only one world's championship (in 1986), when they defeated the Boston Red Sox in a seven-game World Series which was one of the most amazing responses in the baseball history.
New York Mets play in Shea Stadium. This stadium had hosted famous
concerts such as Beatles in 1965. Shea stadium was opened in 1964 as a home stadium for NY Mets. In 1974 and 1975 New York Yankees played its home games in Shea Stadium seasons because Yankee Stadium was being modernized at that time. The stadium is considered to be one of the loudest stadiums in the leagues because the stadium is located near to La Guardia Airport.
New York Mets Uniform colors are Black, Blue, and Orange. Although the Mets had lost a lot in the seasons, they proved to their fans that they were able to participate and be a productive team and part of the league and the baseball history till today.
