The onset of spring awakens the people of Red Sox Nation and the annual pursuit for a World Series victory by the local nine. Red Sox began in 1901 as the Boston Pilgrims of the newly formed American League. Red Sox won the first World Series in 1903 over the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1908 Red Sox changed their name to the Red Sox. In 1912 Red Sox moved into brand new Fenway Park, where Red Sox still play today.

In 1918, Boston Red Sox won their fifth World Series, thanks in part to a star lefty pitcher named Babe Ruth, who could also hit the 'you know what' out of the ball. Unluckily Red Sox homeland is still waiting for come to 6. Some theorize the "Curse of the Bambino" is the root of the drought, when Boston Red Sox owner Harry Frazee sold Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1919. Everybody has their own theory for the championship void, from a case of bad fortune, or the peculiarities of Fenway Park, to a need of pitching, or celestial intervention on behalf of the hated Yankees.

The years following that the exile of the Babe to New York were unsuccessful for the Red Sox, who finished in last place nine times? Resurgence started in 1933 when millionaire Tom Yawkee purchased the Boston Red Sox, remodeled Fenway Park, and exhausted capital for big names athletes. Through the 1940's and 50's, the Boston Red Sox players continually competed for the pennant but they were foiled several times by the Yankees. In 1946 they won their first emblem since 1918 but were beaten by the Cardinals in the World Series. The Boston Red Sox went through another depressing period from the late fifties until the "Impossible Dream" team of 1967; led by Carl Yastrzemski's unbelievable Triple Crown season. The love matter between New England baseball fans and the Red Sox was reborn. Since that magical '67 season Fenway Park has consistently been to the top to capacity. In the next years the Sox won pennants in 1975 and 1986, captured three divisional championships, and made two wild-card appearances.

Boston’s fans witnessed many historic moments at Fenway Park. Boston Red Sox watched the stunning career of Ted Williams, called by many who saw him take part in, "the greatest hitter who ever lived." Hall of Famers Carl Yastrzemski, Carlton Fisk, Joe Cronin, and Bobby Doerr, played in front of the 'Fenway Faithful'. Today, Red Sox fans are being treated to the exploits of Future Hall of Famers Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez. Former Red Sox pitcher Roger Clemens punched his ticket to Cooperstown years ago in a Boston uniform.

The past of the Boston Red Sox is a combination of personal achievements, their fabled ball park, and an extreme range of team highs and heartaches. The ghosts of baseball heroes of the past seem to dwell in the old ball park. The spirit of Red Sox nation endures with the eternal hope that some day they will reach the peak and finally defeat those 'Damn Yankees'.
