Cincinnati Reds in one of the professional teams in National League Central Division. There original name was Red Stockings and they decided to change their name in 1890 to Reds. Currently Reds play in Cinergy Field in Cincinnati, Ohio and wear uniforms with red and white color.
In 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings was the first professional baseball team in the United States. Seven years later they joined National League in baseball league. In 1880 National League and most of the teams owners decided to ban sale of alcohol such as beer on Sunday games. When Cincinnati Reds decided not to participate in that, they were kicked out of National League. In 1881 Cincinnati Reds and 6 other teams decided to make their own league which was called American Association, and Cincinnati Reds won the first American Association pennant in 1882.
Cincinnati rejoined National League in 1890 and they changed their name from Red Stockings to Reds. They struggled for nearly 30 years, they couldn’t make it better then 3 rd place, which wasn’t even enough to be in playoffs. In 1919 they finally won the National League pennant and also became Worlds Series Champions.
Again it took Cincinnati Reds twenty years before they won another pennant. Few amazing pitchers helped them do that, but it wasn’t enough to win World Series. In 1939 and 1940 they won 2 more pennants and in 1940 they won another World Series Title.
During 1970 Cincinnati won two more world series and four pennants and six division titles, which was amazing to everyone and people called Cincinnati Reds a Big Red Machine. In 10 years 6 Cincinnati Reds players received MVP, it was an amazing team.
Since that time they have won one more title which was in 1990 and they had 5 titles already. In 2000 Reds traded for Ken Griffey Jr as a center fielder and his dad Ken Griffey Sr. was the coach. Since that time they haven’t done anything significant because again the line up is not good enough for them to compete with other teams. Here comes 2005 season and they made a lot of trades and changes maybe this year they can be a better Cincinnati Reds team.
