Seattle Mariners is one the professional teams in American League West Division. Seattle Mariners were named by local fans because of the regions maritime. They play in Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington. They decided to have white, blue, teal, and silver uniform.
Seattle Mariners came to Seattle in 1977. For the first 11 years in American League Seattle Mariners went through seven managers and many different starting lineups, and they still couldn’t finish better then 4 th place in American League West Division. In 1984 Mariners received a lot of great rookies such as Alvin Davis, Jim Presley, Mark Langston and many more. Mariners started to attract many new players in early 80’s.
In 9186 Edgar Martinez joined Seattle Mariners. In 1987 Jay Buhner joined Seattle Mariners. They were having one of the best teams in a league. In 1989 young center fielder joined Seattle Mariners, he was Ken Griffey Jr. Him and his father Ken Griffey Sr. were the only father and son to be in the same lineup.
Seattle finally broke the .500 mark for the first time in 1991. It wasn’t enough to go any where. In 1992 Edgar Martinez captured American League batting title with .343 but the team still didn’t make it any where and once again was the last team.
In 1993 Lou Piniella joined the team as a head coach. His first year as a Seattle Mariners coach he led them to a wining year again. In 1994 Ken Griffey Jr. led the Major League with 40 homeruns and Randy Johnson led Major League with 204 strikeouts.
In 1995 Seattle Mariners for the first time won Division title. Lou Piniella was named manager of the year award. Randy Johnson won Cy Young award and Edgar Martinez won another batting title. It was very sad when Seattle Mariners defeated Yankees and lost to Cleveland Indians in American League Championship Series.
