San Francisco Giants are a professional Baseball team located in San Francisco, California. The Giants started their life as a baseball club which was founded by John B. Day and Jim Mutrie. The giants were known as the Gothams when they entered to the national league. In 1888, the team won its first National League (NL) pennant when John B. Day and Jim Mutrie started moving star players to the Gothams.
Andrew Freeman, the owner of the team, was considered to be the worse owner when he changed the Giants' fortunes because of his unnecessary decisions that left the Giants behind. In 1902, John McGraw was a signed to be a player-manager of the team; He managed the Giants for three decades. Because of McGraw, the giants won three World Series championships and ten National League flags.
The Giants had several key players during its history, such as Smiling Mickey Welch, Roger Connor, Tim Keefe, Jim O'Rourke and Monte Ward. Under McGraw, a lot of remarkable baseball players were playing with the Giants such as Christy Mathewson, Iron Man Joe McGinnity, Bill Terry, Jim Thorpe, Mel Ott and Casey Stengel. All of these players, and other more gained their skills from McGraw.
In 1932, McGraw handed over the team to Bill Terry who played and also managed the Giants for ten years. Under Bill Terry, the Giants won four pennants and one World Series. Other stars such as Ott and Carl Hubbell were key players to shape the Giants history in baseball. During the 1934, Hubbell got his fame, when he struck out all of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmy Foxx, and Al Simmons.
Since the Giants moved to San Francisco, they have played in three World Series. They lost four games to three to the New York Yankees in 1962. In the Bay Bridge Series, The Giants faced Oakland Athletics in 1989. Oakland went on to beat San Francisco four games to none.
