| From 1961-1965 the Anaheim Angels baseball team played as guests of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Wrigley Field, which seated 20,047, played host to the Angels. The Dodgers acquired Wrigley from the Cubs in a trade. The Cubs had built Wrigley in LA in the 1920s opening on September 27, 1925. The LA Angels, members of the PCL, played in Wrigley Field until the late 1950s. After their great success in the1961 season (8th in a ten-team league), the Angels rented Dodger Stadium in 1962 from 1965, where they wanted to draw larger crowds. This worked somewhat, but they moved to their own home in 1966, "The Big A" in Anaheim. In 2002, untouched by criticism before the season, the Angels went way beyond expectations, winning 99 games and taking out Seattle for the American League "wildcard" in the postseason.
They won New York 3 games to 1 in the American League Division Series and the Minnesota Twins 4 games to 1 in the ALCS to go on to the World Series for the first time in team history. At the World Series the Angels baseball team defeated the San Francisco Giants in seven games, after losing three of the first five. Down 3 games to 2, the Angels where behind 5-0 in Game Six with eight outs remaining and no one on base. In the greatest comeback in World Series history by a team facing defeat, the Angels take it 6-5, then won the 7th game 4-1 to win their first World Series title.

Third baseman Troy Glaus of the Anaheim Angels baseball club was picked MVP of the Series. Twenty-year-old rookie relief pitcher Francisco Rodríguez won five postseason games, never winning a major league game before. Angel pitcher John Lackey became the first rookie pitcher to win the 7th game of the World Series in 93 years.On May 15, 2003, the Angels became the first MLB team to be owned by a Hispanic, when team was sold to Arturo Moreno.
